About Zara

Zara is a Spanish retailer founded in 1975. It is the flagship store of the Inditex group, who own some of the biggest retailers such as Massimo Dutti and Bershka. Zara has become famous in the industry as it is claimed that the retailer needs just two weeks to develop a new product and get it to stores, rather than the more common six month period favoured by its competitors. It also prefers not to advertise as much as other retailers, focusing its revenues on opening new stores instead. As a result of this strategy, Zara was designed by Louis Vuitton fashion director Daniel Piette as ‘possibly the most innovative and devastating retailer in the world’ whilst CNN named it a ‘Spanish success story’. Zara is also known as a fashion imitator, as it focused on what customers wanted to wear rather than using seasonal fashion shows and trend prediction to dictate its products. There are over 2000 Zara stores across 88 countries.

Zara Benefits From Online Sales Boost
December 1st, 2014

Online sales for the Spanish fashion company Inditex, who own Zara, have soared by 42 per cent to a record 553 million Euros. Other chains in the fashion sector are struggling, where as Inditex who also own Massimo Dutti and Pull & Bear appear to be flying through the recession unscathed. The company has reported a turnover of £16.7 billion, up over a billion from last year.

Online sales only account for three per cent of overall sales, however the internet itself accounts for 20% of the companies growth in the last year. Inditex began its presence online in 2007 with a website for the home sector of Zara before launching Fashion Retail in 2011 when all of its brands became available online.
