About Wickes

Wickes is a home improvement retailer based in the UK. The company was first founded in Michigan, USA back in 1854. In 1972, alongside building merchant company Sankeys, Wickes opened its first store in the UK. By 1987, the company had expanded rapidly to 41 stores. In 1996, the company was hit by accusations of account irregularities. By 2000, the company had turned around its reputation and was purchased by Focus Do It All, before it was sold to Travis Perkins in 2005.
The majority of Wickes’ products are own brand, which means that the company reputation relies on the quality of the products. It’s now 40 years since the first store opened, and Wickes celebrated its 200th store opening in 2011 with a new store in Beverly. The company now has a range of over 15,000 products and aims to be a leading multi channel retailer- you can shop online, get advice in store and interact with customer services through social media.

The Wickes headquarters can be found in Northampton, UK. There are now around 222 stores across the UK- in 2009, Wickes ventured into Ireland with a store in Limerick, but the venture was short lived and the store closed down in 2013. The company has also attempted to venture into areas of Europe and South Africa but to little success, as the ventures were closed down in the 1990s.

Wickes is aiming to improve its impact on the environment by improving energy efficiency and reducing waste produced from stores.
