Ticketmaster have hit back against criticisms that their booking fees are exceptionally high. It follows a petition that received over 37,000 signatures demanding ticket retailers be up front about the true cost of booking fees.
With Ticketmaster, the average booking fee is about 11% higher than the actual value of a ticket. The Guardian penned an article that explained how a £55 ticket to see Kings Of Leon included £6 on top.
Ticketmaster’s MD Simon Presswell said that the 11% was a “fair and reasonable amount”. He explained: “They are a by-product of what goes into delivering the fulfillment of the ticket. We know that no one likes booking fees, but the complex nature of our business means that we need to charge them. We do not keep the face value of a ticket so our sole source of income is often just the fees and it covers a wealth of things that go behind delivering a ticket.”
The Advertising Standards Agency are currently attempting to make sure that all ticket sellers are honest about their compulsory fees. They hope this will help prevent the misleading of customers in the future.
