What is Pension Credit?
Pension Credit is an income related benefit. It is made up of two parts- Guarantee Credit and Savings Credit. Guarantee credit at the time of writing tops up your weekly income if it is below £145.50 for single people, or £222.05 for couples. Savings credit is extra money for people who have already saved up towards their retirement, for example with a pension. If you want to find out if you are eligible for pension credit, call us to be transferred to the Pension Credit phone number. If you are a carer or severely disabled, you may be entitled to more credit. In order to qualify for pension credit, you must live in Great Britain and you or your partner must have reached pension credit qualifying age. The quickest way to claim for the credit is over the phone. You can also download form PC1 and send it to your local pension centre, or fill it out online. To claim, you will need your National Insurance number, information about your income, savings and investments and your bank account details. The earliest time you can start your application is four months before you reach pension credit qualifying age.
