What Is The Nectar Card?

Nectar cards are a loyalty scheme used in the UK. It’s partner companies include: Sainsburys, BP, Argos, Homebase, Waterstones and Topshop amongst many others.  There are a number of benefits to using a Nectar card. The points are collected generally at a rate of two points per £1 spent. Extra points can be earned from buying specific products or buying during a promotion. Customers also receive one point everytime they re-use a carrier bag. Generally, customers get around 0.5p back for every point collected. The points do not expire, which allows customers to save up for expensive rewards such as Eurostar fares. Nectar points can also be collected online, providing the product is purchased through the Nectar website. Companies involved in this scheme include Apple and Vodafone. For more about the online incentive, call the Nectar helpline.

Nectar App

The Nectar app gives you the best of Nectar points on the go. You can check your points activity, take advantage of rewards on the go and see updated weekly offers which are specifically tailored to you. You can download the app using the iTunes App Store or by using Google Play for your Android device. The app is free to download; you don’t need an internet connection for it to work, but you do need one to access the latest offers. Unfortunately, you are not yet able to use the app as a replacement for your Nectar card to scan in store, so you’ll still need to scan your card or key fob.

Nectar browser toolbar

Use the Nectar toolbar to remind you which stores and brands you can collect points with, when you shop online. You’ll also get points when you search, up to a limit of 200 per month. The toolbar works with Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Apple Safari. The extension is powered by Yahoo!

You’ll get 100 points just for downloading the toolbar. If other people in your house use the same computer, and also wish to collect Nectar points, there is a log in and log out option.

Signing up for Nectar rewards

To set up a Nectar account, simply visit the Nectar website, fill in details such as your name, address, date of birth, email and phone number. Then, you can set a password and username which you use to login online. You can also set ‘additional collectors’ on your account. Points generally cannot be transferred between separate Nectar accounts.

How to order a replacement card

If you have lost your Nectar card, or had it stolen, you can order a replacement card online. You’ll need to verify details, such as your surname, date of birth and postcode.

The Background of Nectar Card

Nectar card was established in 2002 by Loyalty Management Group, the owner of Air Miles. The scheme was re-branded in 2007 to make it clear to customers that it was a reward incentive. In 2010, Nectar card claimed that it had more members than its main rival Tesco clubcard. The programme was also launched in Italy in 2010.

Today, Nectar has over 400 retailers as a partner.
