E.ON is an energy company in the United Kingdom which is a subsidiary of the larger German company E.ON. In the UK, E.ON had previously been Powergen until the German utility company acquired it in 2002. The Powergen branding did not completely switch to E.ON branding until the end of 2007. E.ON supplies energy to homes and business properties across the UK, but it is not a distribution network operator. This means that E.ON does not manage the cables and towers in each region. E.ON provides energy for small to large businesses in addition to residential consumers. They have interests in renewable energy production as well as oil and gas in the North Sea.

Customer Services

Contact E.ON on 0843 557 3772 to speak to their customer services team from Monday to Saturday. The lines are closed on Sundays, but if you have an out-of-hours emergency you will still be able to get support by calling 105 about electrical faults or 0800 111 999 if there is an issue with your gas supply. For more general enquiries or non-emergencies, simply contact customer services and they can answer questions or look into your account details for you. Call to find out about schemes such as Feed-In Tariffs or EnergyPlan Assist which could benefit you. If you are moving house or you are managing affairs for a deceased person, call E.ON to discuss the steps you need to take.

Bills & Payments

A Direct Debit is a great payment option if you want to spread payments evenly instead of paying more in winter and less in summer. There are plenty of other ways to pay, including prepayment meters or even cheques. If you have a payment arrangement, you should always make payments on time to avoid building a debt. Call 0843 557 4968 for assistance if you do not understand your bill or you are having difficulties paying it off. If you notice any errors such as higher charges or incorrect meter readings, call to get these fixed as soon as possible. Call to find out if you are on the right tariff, or enquire about discounts like the Warm Home scheme or E.ON Energy Fund.

Review Tariffs

E.ON can change its prices and tariffs at any time, although any changes might not affect you until the end of your current payment agreement term. If the payment plan you are on is not working out for you, call 0843 557 3476 to discuss the options for other tariffs you could switch to instead. You can compare fixed, pay as you go, variable, or prepayment tariffs to find the best price. When it comes to renewal, you might want to take the chance to hop over to a better deal. If you think that E.ON prices are too high on any possible tariff, you can always choose to change suppliers. Should you decide to leave E.ON, call them to find out what to do and how to cancel your E.ON account.

Prepayment Meters

If you have a prepayment meter, you will purchase credit by topping up a card or key, then insert it into your meter to transfer the credit. You can then use up this credit to pay off your energy until it runs out and you have to top it up again. This way you only pay for what you actually use. You should only have to make repayments if you had a previous debt or used your emergency credit allowance. If you need help with how to top up or read your meter then call 0843 816 6817. You can call if credit is not showing on your meter, or if you have lost your gas meter card or electric meter key and need E.ON to send you a replacement. Call if you want to switch to another meter type.

Smart Meters

Smart Meters are the future, so if you don’t have one yet, you can expect E.ON to offer a free installation by 2020. They are self-reading, so you no longer need to submit meter readings yourself. You will also have a free Smart Energy Display to show you how much you are using and spending. This makes it easier for you to keep on top of your energy bills. The readings will always be accurate, so you don’t have to bother with the hassles of estimated payments. With a Smart Meter, you can also use Smart Pay As You Go to top it up from your phone or computer. Call 0843 816 6818 for assistance with a Smart Meter, including installations or switching to Smart Pay As You Go.

Complaints

If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the services E.ON have provided to you, call 0843 816 6819 to complain. You should allow the customer care team to attempt to put things right when you initially contact them. If they do not provide a suitable response, you should call to escalate to the complaints resolution team. They will usually provide an apology, an explanation, and take action to fix the issue. This could include compensation, depending on the situation. This could take from two days to three weeks. You can request an internal review if you disagree with the outcome. If you are still unhappy with this, after eight weeks you can ask the Ombudsman to investigate.

Other Ways to Contact E.ON

If the phone lines are busy and you don’t have time to wait on hold, try another contact method. You can reach out to E.ON online through their Facebook page, or send a tweet to @EONhelp on Twitter. The customer services team is there to offer support during their regular office opening hours, as seen above. There is a live chat option on the E.ON website, but only if there is an advisor available. When the live chat is down, you can use the virtual assistant to locate answers to pre-set questions. If you cannot find the information you are looking for, send your enquiries to [email protected]. If you need to reach the E.ON HR department, e-mail [email protected].
