A brief history of Dunelm

dunelm contact numberDunelm was founded in 1979 by Bill and Jean Adderley, trading home textiles from a market stall in Leicester. The first store opened in Churchgate, Leicester in 1984, with the first superstore opening in 1991. The rapid growth led to a new head office setting up in 1991, to deal with the increasing demands of the stores, and saw Will Adderley take over from his father Bill in 1996.

In 2001, the company began to venture into manufacturing their own products, acquiring Bellbird manufacturing, and renaming it “Dunelm Manufacturing Centre,” producing curtains, blinds and chairs for the company. Dunelm also expanded to it’s 50th store in this year, opening a new warehouse in Burton to help cope with the expansion.

As of 2015, Dunelm operated 150 stores across the UK, maintained its manufacturing capacity, and employed over 5,200 people.
