Car Insurance

With Direct Line comprehensive cover, you won’t lose your No Claims Discount if an accident isn’t your fault. The policy also guarantees you a small hatchback hire car while your car is being repaired. You can opt for the more basic level of Third Party Fire and Theft cover for a lower premium. Direct Line car insurance policies do not cover indirect loss or damage from wear and tear. They do offer a multi-car insurance discount for cars registered at the same address. Making Claims

When you make a claim, you must provide the following information: your policy number, your location, the details of the incident, the condition of your car, any third party and witness details, and a crime reference number if the police are involved. You can make a claim as long as you have as much of this information as possible. Call 0844 249 0194 to make a claim under Direct Line car insurance. Direct Line will tell you what your policy covers, which will determine how much you have to pay and what support you will get. This includes repairs and courtesy cars. When you arrange repairs with Direct Line’s recommended garage, the repair work is guaranteed for five years.

Renewing Insurance

Direct Line should contact you 21 days before your renewal date with renewal advice. You should check that all of the details on your policy are up-to-date, especially if any details changed throughout the policy term. If everything is correct and your payment details are the same, then Direct Line will automatically renew your policy for you. If you do not want to auto-renew, or if you want to check what your renewal premium will be if you do change some details, call 0843 208 5580. If you would rather cancel than renew, you will need to let Direct Line know before the policy expiry date. Cancelling Insurance

You can decide to cancel your car insurance with Direct Line during the cooling-off period and receive a refund. Direct Line will deduct the amount you owe for the number of days of cover from the refund. If you cancel after this cooling-off period of 14 days, Direct Line will also deduct an administration fee of around £50-£60. If you have a DrivePlus Box or Plug-in, they will disable it and remove you, but you might have to return the device by post. Should you end up without a vehicle for a temporary period, you can ask Direct Line to suspend your policy instead of cancelling it completely.

Complaints

In the first half of 2017, the Direct Line Group was the provider customers complained about most frequently to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Call if you need them to explain an issue or fix a mistake they have made which is causing further problems for you. It may take a few days to resolve your complaint.
